The Augustinian Sister M. Teresa Spinelli during her Apostolate
(Rome 1789 – Frosinone 1850)
Frosinone, circa 1844.
The scene illustrates Sr Maria Teresa Spinelli, the first Servant of Jesus and Mary, in the courtyard of the Convent which she founded some years before, with women, children and infants, in the act of imparting and teaching them the Word of Jesus and the Holy Scriptures.
The Nun’s look is turned towards the observer, thus meaning that her thought, besides those present, is turned above all towards those who in time will come, to the future and thus also to us.
On high, mixed with the clouds of the sky, the great and transparent figure of St Augustine, who protects and guides the Great Nun.
The costumes are not all suited to the time, also because her teachings are carried out even now in the Mother House at Frosinone and in all the Convents spread throughout the world.
